The two white rhinos were only 18 months old and due to return to the wild next week.

Poachers stormed into a rhino orphanage in South Africa earlier this week and killed two young rhinos, as well as brutally attacking staff and sexually assaulting one woman. A gang of poachers took staff hostage at the Fundimvelo Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday night, and hacked off the horns of two 18 month old white rhinos named Impi and Gugu. Gugu was killed instantly during the attack, but Impi survived the brutality. However, his injuries were so bad that he had to be put down the next morning. According to local media, the rhinos were due to have their horns safely removed next week in an attempt to protect them from poachers before they were released back into the wild, but evidently this came too late.

Thula Thula’s Karen Trendler told journalist Bonné de Bod in a Facebook Live video, “Is this another stage? That’s what we’ve been asking. There has been an increasing desensitisation, there has been an escalation in the violence in the poaching and the mutilation.” The rhinos at this orphanage had been taken there after their mothers were killed by poachers. In the wild, a rhino calf will often stand by its mother for days after poachers have killed her, with no food or water, until the calf is rescued by conservationists like those at Thula Thula.

Trendler described in an interview, “Impy survived a particularly brutal poaching. He stayed at his mother’s carcass for six days, moving away just a short distance to eat … because he was obviously very hungry and very thirsty. And when he came in, I still remember so clearly, sitting with this tiny little rhino who was covered in blood splatter from where they shot the mom, and he smelled terribly of carcass fluids, and … that reality hitting me — this is what rhino poaching is about, this is what these little guys go through.”

Yvette Taylor, a manager at Thula Thula and executive director of Lawrence Anthony Earth Organization told The Dodo, “The remainder of the rhino as well as Charlie our hippo orphan are doing well. They were initially very scared but have now settled back into a routine. The staff and volunteers have been absolutely amazing in keeping their focus on the care of the animals despite the trauma they have endured themselves. We have also had a vet onsite for the last 48 hours in case we need specialist care for any reason.”

Since the horrific attack, Thula Thula has received huge amounts of worldwide support, both through social media and those directly involved with conservation. This includes donations of over R400,000 ($31,242) to help them rebuild everything that the poachers destroyed, which includes all of the orphanage’s security cameras, as well as the care needed to keep all of the animals at the orphanage safe. Local reports claim that two suspects were arrested who are well known poachers from a notorious gang in the area, and were also found with a heavy-calibre hunting rifle and several rounds of ammunition. Support continues at Thula Thula as all staff members try to recover and rebuild after the attack whilst making plans for heightened security measures in the future.

A man who brutally bashed a kangaroo to death with a crowbar with another man near Bunbury will spend almost a year behind bars.

Craig Jamie House and Vance Geoffrey Jarvis, who represented themselves in court, both pleaded guilty in the Bunbury Magistrates Court on Tuesday to ill-treatment of an animal, according to the ABC.

ABC News said he told the court ‘I tried to put out the ‘roo in the most humanely way I could’.

However, the magistrate said that the use of dogs, rocks and hitting the animal on the head were not humane.

Jarvis said he only got involved to put the kangaroo out of its misery.

House was found to be the instigator and was jailed for 11 months while Jarvis was fined $10,000 (£6,000).

David van Ooran from the RSPCA said: ‘It’s incredibly rare — I can’t think of a time in recent years and decades where this has occurred.

‘This is a very strong penalty and a very appropriate penalty … it was clearly a horrific and sickening act against a defenceless animal, behaviour like this is completely unacceptable.

‘It’s excellent to see that the magistrate in this case has awarded a prison term.’

Have you ever noticed the messaging found on covers and inside most beauty magazines? Whether it’s women’s or men’s magazines, there is a common element: advertising -a lot of it! Not just that but, the wording tends to tell us quite clearly that there’s something not right about us, something we have to change or that if we don’t do something, we’re “out of style,” “not beautiful,” or “not handsome.”

Now, it’s one thing to enjoy fashion, clothing, and our image innocently but it’s another thing to be drawn to it because we have low self esteem, confidence and low self worth. The tricky part is, a lot of times we aren’t consciously aware of how much our desire or obsession with these things are actually fuelled by our lack of self confidence – the ego can be tricky to catch in that way.

Have You Noticed?

In the video below, watch as the truth behind not only advertising but wording is brought to light when it comes to these magazines. Then begin to reflect: what are you drawn to when you see the cover of a magazine? Do you notice yourself wanting what you see or being attracted to headlines because of promises they make? Do you notice that these promises are often playing on something ‘wrong’ with you?

Check out the video, and then check out the important message below.

Breaking The Culture

It’s time we really start asking ourselves questions about why we put so much importance on appearance. The programming we have been subject to has affected all of us in some way, and I believe it’s time we start moving beyond it.

Taking an important excerpt from an articl I wrote a few years ago about the term “a real woman,” I want to draw attention to some unconscious thoughts we have about appearance.

Real Beauty?

We often see an effort to focus on “real beauty,” “a real woman” or “a real man.” But what does these terms actually mean? Not only that, but why do we go from one extreme to another when we become aware of our cultural programming?

A real woman, and even a real man, is whoever we are. “Real” isn’t any specific thing. Curvy, skinny, medium build, it’s all REAL! So we don’t need to create campaigns and movements focused on showing “what’s real”. We simply need to accept that we are all different and culturally let go of the perceptions we place on what beauty is or isn’t.

We see efforts to show curvy woman as ‘real women’ in an attempt to make ourselves focus on something else (Dove Real Beauty campaign). But imagine for an instant that we suddenly went in this other direction and now “real” means being curvy. How does the girl or woman who has a very skinny body type feel? The same thing goes for men. Many men hit the gym in an attempt to achieve the correct body weight, shape, and look in order to be considered muscular (and therefore attractive). But this is just another illusion – and having a decent background in kinesiology, I can tell you that some men, just like some women, have body types that simply don’t allow them to achieve the shape their egos are after.

If we want to truly go back to “real beauty” this would mean going beyond all the conceptions put forth by popular culture, cosmetic companies and even the fashion industry. Think of the idea of needing wear makeup. Sure we can have fun with it, dress up, wear it from time to time, but does it have to be a daily thing? Are we not acceptable, beautiful or attractive without it? After all, why do only women wear it to ‘bring out their features’ and men don’t? Who made that up?

“Can I leave the house without wearing makeup, perfecting my hair, wearing the right clothes and hiding my flaws?” Can your friends or new love interests see you without in these states? This applies to both men and women, as men can be just as self-conscious about their looks as women and I believe it’s important to simply embrace who we are.

The ocean bombing will affect the behavioral and breeding habitats of a range of marine life.

US Air Force bomb testing will disrupt the lives of hundreds of marine animals if the practice goes ahead. The testing of bombs around the waters just off the coast of Kauai, in Hawaii, could seriously affect the health of a number of different marine species that live in the area. If the tests are approved, they would begin in September 2017 and continue all the way through until August 2022. Michael Jasny, a leading expert in the law and policy of ocean noise pollution and director of the Marine Mammal Protection Project for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), told The Dodo, “The Air Force has proposed dropping about 100 bombs per year, some as large as 300 pounds, on waters north of Kauai. It says it will keep whales and dolphins out of harm’s way by looking for them on the surface, but that’s no easy task in the heavy waters around the islands.”

Recent reports from The Dodo have claimed that the Long Range Strike Weapons Systems Evaluation Program would explode bombs and missiles that are being tested for military use above or just below the surface of the water. If this takes place, it could permanently deafen an estimated 36 animals, according to data on the population density of the area issued by the Air Force. Along with these statistics, a further 382 animals could also sustain temporary hearing loss due to the bomb explosions. The threat of hearing hindering is of particular concern for whales and dolphins as they navigate and communicate by sound, using their sense of hearing. Therefore the explosions could severely impact their behavioural patterns, meaning that the way that the animals breed, migrate, eat and nurse their young could all be disrupted.
An array of wildlife organisations including the NRDC, the Animal Welfare Institute, the Center for Biological Diversity, the Conservation Council for Hawaii, Earthjustice and the Ocean Mammal Institute sent a joint letter to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), which is the agency that is in charge of approving the explosion testing proposal. The letter urges the government to consider the huge impact that the bombing could have on the marine animals that live in the area, taking the animal’s safety into account. Jasny continued by commenting on alternatives that the Air Force should consider if the bombing tests cannot be entirely shut down. He said,

“At the very least, the Air Force should use the Navy’s network of hydrophones (or underwater microphones) to help detect these vulnerable species around its bomb site. And it should keep to the northern end of the training area, where the islands’ resident whales and dolphins are less likely to go. Otherwise, the Air Force would be taking unnecessary risks in one of the most remarkable spots for marine mammals on the planet.”

Although the public comment period on this proposal has now finished, the NMFS can still be contacted on the matter through this address ITP.McCue@noaa.gov. In addition to this, you can add your name here to speak up for the animals that cannot defend themselves and risk being seriously implicated by the acts of the US Air Force.

The rays are shot with bows and arrows and then knocked over the head with baseball bats.

Recent reports have found that hunters are using the breeding season of rays to their advantage by shooting entire families for a competitive contest. Every year, numerous groups of cownose rays swim from Florida to the Chesapeake Bay to give birth. Jeff Pierce, legislative counsel for the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), told The Dodo that the cownose rays add a beauty and mystery to the ocean and “researchers have shown that these rays are actually very intelligent, that they have preferences and ideas of their own”. However, in recent years, the rays’ goal of reaching the Chesapeake Bay just before they give birth has ended in a cruel fate. Hunters climb into boats and shoot the rays in the water using bows and arrows, as part of a contest called the Battle of the Rays.
Due to the competition taking place during the same time as birthing season for the rays, the majority of the rays that are shot are pregnant females that would have been just about to give birth. The rays that don’t die from being shot by a bow and arrow are then clubbed in the head until they are dead. The implications of this practice are having a serious impact on ray populations, especially as rays only carry one baby at a time. The killing competition was originally encouraged by the state of Virginia, who even started a campaign, with the use of tax dollars, to promote the killing of the rays for food; despite them having a horrible taste which some have likened to urine. It was also promoted at one time by a now-debunked theory that there was a need for less rays, as this would then help to increase the dwindling oyster harvests.

Despite the theory being shown as false, the contests still continued due to the fact that a large number of people wanted to kill the rays in the name of sport. Back in 2015, the ray killing contest was filmed after Maryland-based Fish Feel asked Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) to get involved. Stuart Chaifetz, an investigator for SHARK, told The Dodo, “The video we captured that year, and in 2016, featured animal cruelty so violent and vicious that it brought international condemnation down upon these contests and spurred more than 146,000 people to sign a petition against them”.

Chaifetz proceeded to talk to WBALTV after witnessing first-hand the violence and cruelty of the contest in 2015. He said, “As they were dying, they gave birth as a last chance to get their babies out, who were killed themselves”. Maryland state senator, Ron Young, decided that something must be done after viewing the footage of the 2015 contest, which showed the rays being beaten to death before being thrown back into the water. He told WBALTV, “They shoot them, they pull them up, they beat them with a baseball bat, they throw them in a barrel and [the rays] suffocate, and then they dump them back in the water. It’s just very inhumane. I don’t think we should treat any live species that way”. He has since drafted Senate Bill 268 in a bid to make contests, including Battle of the Rays, illegal. You can sign a petition to save the rays here.

The title of this article might give you the impression that my aim is to frighten you. I assure you it is not. The realities of the pharmaceutical industry are admittedly difficult to swallow, but this is important information given the fact that so many people are taking anti-depressant drugs. While these details may be disturbing, especially if you or someone you know takes anti-depressant drugs, it is important to move past the fear of information and really look at what has happened with the modern day medical industry and the pharmaceutical stranglehold that plagues it today.

“The medical profession is being bought by the pharmaceutical industry, not only in terms of the practice of medicine, but also in terms of teaching and research. The academic institutions of this country are allowing themselves to be the paid agents of the pharmaceutical industry. I think it’s disgraceful.”  – (source)(source) Arnold Seymour Relman (1923-2014), Harvard Professor of Medicine and Former Editor-in-Chief of the New England Medical Journal

The most recent example of this kind of corruption comes from a study that was published last week in the British Medical Journal  by researchers at the Nordic Cochrane Center in Copenhagen. The study showed that pharmaceutical companies were not disclosing all information regarding the results of their drug trials. Researchers looked at documents from 70 different double-blind, placebo-controlled trials of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI) and found that the full extent of serious harm in clinical study reports went unreported. These are the reports sent to major health authorities like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Tamang Sharma, a PhD student at Cochrane and lead author of the study, said:

We found that a lot of the appendices were often only available upon request to the authorities, and the authorities had never requested them. I’m actually kind of scared about how bad the actual situation would be if we had the complete data. (source)

Joanna Moncrieff, a psychiatrist and researcher at University College London, elaborates:

[This study] confirms that the full degree of harm of antidepressants is not reported. They are not reported in the published literature, we know that – and it appears that they are not properly reported in clinical study reports that go to the regulators and from the basis of decisions about licensing. (source)

Peter Gotzsche, a clinician researcher at Cochrane and the co-author of the study, actually tried to gain access to clinical trial reports almost a decade ago for anti-obesity pills. Unfortunately, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) denied them the reports:

They talked about commercial confidentiality although there was absolutely nothing in these reports that was commercially confidential. We explained that all this secrecy actually cost human lives, but they weren’t interested in that at all. (source)

It took years of requests and complaints for this to happen and, while Gotzsche is pleased they were able to achieve this breakthrough, he reminds us that similar progress has yet to made in the United States. He went on to state that researchers need better access to data from clinical trials to conduct assessments unimpeded by industry influence:

It’s deeply unethical when patients volunteer to benefit science and then we let drug companies decide that we cannot get access to the raw data. The testing of drugs should be a public enterprise. (source)

Moncrieff (quoted above) then goes on to express further concerns:

We really don’t have good enough evidence that antidepressants are effective and we have increasing evidence that they can be harmful. So we need to go into reverse and stop this increasing trend of prescribing [them]. (source)

This Is Not The First Time

This is not the first time that pharmaceutical companies have been caught manipulating science in order to get antidepressants onto the shelves. It was only a couple of months ago that an independent review found that the commonly prescribed antidepressant drug Paxil (paroxetine) is not safe for teenagers, even though a large amount of literature had already suggested this previously. The 2001 drug trial that took place, funded by GlaxoSmithKline, found that these drugs were completely safe, and used that ‘science’ to market Paxil as safe for teenagers.

John Ioannidis, an epidemiologist at Stanford University School of Medicine and co-author of the study, is also the author of the most widely accessed article in the history of the Public Library of Science (PLoS), titled Why Most Published Research Findings Are False. In the report, he states that “most current published research findings are false.” And this was more than 10 years ago — the situation has undeniably worsened in the interim.

This echoes the words of Dr. Richard Horton, the current Editor-In-Chief of one of the most reputable reviewed medical journals in the world:

The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness. (source)

The Editor in Chief of the New England Medical journal, which is also considered to be one of the best in the world, has made similar assertions:

It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgement of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine. (source)

A couple of years ago, Lucia Tomljenovic, a PhD in biochemistry and a senior postdoctoral fellow in UBC’s Faculty of Medicine, uncovered documents that reveal vaccine manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and health authorities have known about multiple dangers associated with vaccines but chose to withhold them from the public. The documents were obtained from the UK Department of Health (DH) and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI), who advise the Secretaries of State for Health in the UK about diseases preventable through immunizations. The JCVI made “continuous efforts to withhold critical data on severe adverse reactions and contraindications to vaccinations to both parents and health practitioners in order to reach overall vaccination rates.” She goes on to explain that,

The transcripts of the JCBI meetings also show that some of the Committee members had extensive ties to pharmaceutical companies and that the JCVI frequently co-operated with vaccine manufactures on the strategies aimed at boosting vaccine uptake. Some of the meetings at which such controversial items were discussed were not intended to be publicly available, as the transcripts were only released later, through the Freedom of Information Act (FOI). These particular meetings are denoted in the transcripts as “commercial in confidence,” and reveal a clear and disturbing lack of transparency, as some of the information was removed from the text (i.e., the names of the participants) prior to transcript release under the FOI section at the JCVI website. (source)

Below is a clip taken from the One More Girl documentary, a film which looks at the Gardasil vaccine, a medicine designed to prevent Human Papillomavirus. In it, Dr. Peter Rost, MD, a former vice president of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world (Pfizer), shares the truth about the ties between the medical and pharmaceutical industry.

Rost is a former vice president of Pfizer, and a whistleblower of the entire pharmaceutical industry in general. He is the author of The Whistleblower, Confessions of a Healthcare Hitman. Considering his work experience, it would be an understatement to say that he is an insider expert on big pharma marketing.

It’s time to re-think current medical research and look at the bigger picture.

Below is a video of James Osborne, a farmer from Ainsworth Nebraska who appeared at the Nebraska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission hearing held last year. It was a hearing on out-of-state companies who were to export fracking wastewater into Nebraska, moving 80 truckloads that carry 10,000 barrels per day of pollution to be dumped into a disposal well in Sioux county — effectively transferring all the risk onto Nebraskan farmers and ranchers

Below is a little more info on fracking, as well as the video, where the oil and gas representatives don’t really have a reply to for the farmer. It’s not the first time something like this has happened, not long ago a lobbyist for Monsanto said it was safe to drink glyphosate, this  is what happened when he was offered some.

More on fracking

Hydraulic fracturing, also known as hydrofracturing or fracking, is another method used by the oil and gas industry to release hydrocarbons from deep below the earth’s surface. To fracture rock formations, companies must drill a vertical shaft into the earth, often penetrating some two or three kilometres.

A horizontal well bore is drilled in an area believed to contain trapped natural gas or oil. Under high pressure, a cocktail of chemicals, water, and sand are pumped into the well. This pressure creates fissures in the shale formation, from which oil and gas can escape.

Despite the dangers and inefficiency of this process, fracking continues. It wreaks havoc on the environment and has also been linked to earthquakes.  In fact, the US Geological Survey recently released findings which directly connected fracking to the dramatic increase of  earthquakes in the United States over the past few years.

According to the study, between 1973 and 2008 there was an average of 21 earthquakes of a magnitude 3 and larger on the Richter scale in the Central and Eastern United States. This increased to 99 M3+ earthquakes per year between 2009 and 2013, and this number is still rising.

According to New Scientist in their article Fracking operations triggered 100 quakes in a year”:

The new geophysical research, by Won-Young Kim at Columbia University in Palisades, New York, is the latest to suggest that the main risk of earthquakes associated with fracking relates to the way the water used in the operations is disposed of afterwards. In Ohio, the wastewater was injected into a deep well. This raised the pressure of water within the rock and triggered 109 small quakes between January 2011 and February 2012. The largest, on 31 December 2011, had a magnitude of 3.9.

A recent study by a Cornell University-led research team, published in the National Academy of Sciences, also underscored the risks of these operations. The report, which examined 41,000 conventional and unconventional oil and gas wells in Pennsylvania, revealed that many of the oil and gas wells tapping the Marcellus Shale region of Pennsylvania are leaking methane gas, either into the air or into underground sources of drinking water. (source)

A more recent study showed that oil and natural gas fracking uses, on average, more than 28 times the water it did 15 years ago, gulping up to 9.6 million gallons of water per well and putting farming and drinking sources at risk in arid states, especially during drought. Fracking was banned in New York last week due to water pollution and climate concerns.

While the amount of water used for fracking varies widely from well to well, any potential gains from fracking do not outweigh the risk of contaminating underground aquifers and ecosystems by polluting the most crucial resource on the planet. (source)

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and while the notion may be cliché at this point, it remains a universal truth, particularly in our current age of short attention spans and snack-sized wisdom. We want to know more, but we want it quicker, shorter, easier.

And so I could spend days writing about the ills of modern society – how disconnected we’ve become through technology, how consumed we are by material wealth, how sick and miserable our lifestyles have made us (just to name a few) – and hope that people take the time to read it. Some might, some might not. But the people who do may very well be the ones who are already informed, who already invest their energy into learning about what’s going on in the world.

Or I could simply let these images speak for themselves. I don’t need to preach to the choir (since you lovely CE readers comprise some of the very engaged and informed public to whom I referred).

These were created by Steve Cutts, an illustrator and animator working in London, and shared by Arch20 Magazine. And just to warn you, these are not for the faint of heart.

More than 200 dolphins were recently sequestered into a tiny cove near Taiji, Japan, where the community’s infamous annual dolphin slaughter is set to take place in a matter of days.

Dolphins are one of the most well-known and beloved marine animals, which explains why they are prominently featured in zoos, aquariums, and other venues offering animal-based entertainment. Though the popularity of dolphins is based on their intelligence, playful antics, and capacity for making connections with humans, this popularity has spawned a dark side that has exposed some of nature’s most lively creatures to the worst of human behavior. The dolphins that people have come to know and love didn’t just magically appear in captivity – they were captured by force and sold to the highest bidder. Not only that, these “show” dolphins are oftentimes the sole survivors of brutal dolphin slaughters where those not deemed fit for tourism and aquatic park attractions are butchered for their meat via one of the most horrific and cruel killing techniques in use today.

The most infamous of these slaughters takes place annually near the community of Taiji in the Wakayama prefecture of Southern Japan. The event, commonly known as the Taiji dophin drive hunt, lasts for months, often from September to March and is carried out by a small, select group of local fisherman who clings to the annual carnage as an important display of “traditional fishing culture.” However, the hunt itself is a modern invention made possible only by the use of motorized boats. As the hunt begins, fishermen begin to herd small groups – known as “pods” – of dolphins into the cove. Fishermen use metal bars which bang along the sides of their boats, producing a sound that irritates and stresses the dolphins by disrupting the sonar they use to navigate and orient themselves. After being herded, the dolphins, who are often agitated, are enclosed into small pens by nets and left to calm down overnight before they are taken into captivity or butchered within the same, small holding pens in which they were originally sequestered. For most of the history of the slaughter, the kill method used involved the slitting of the dolphins’ throats, who then died due to exsanguination. However, the Japanese government banned this method and then replaced it with one even worse. Now, dolphins are killed by driving a metal pin into the dolphins’ necks, which is intended to cut the brainstem and lead to a more rapid death. However, several veterinarians and behavioral scientists evaluated the current kill method  used at Taiji and concluded that “This killing method….would not be tolerated or permitted in any regulated slaughterhouse process in the developed world.”
Taiji Cove during a previous dolphin hunt, Credit – Dolphin Project
Now, the conservation watchdog Sea Sheperd has reported that Japanese hunters spotted a super-pod of over 200 dolphins early Friday morning. The dolphins were herded into an enclosure in the Taiji cove where a majority of them await a grisly fate. According to Sea Sheperd, “at least 200 bottlenose dolphins are spending their final live moments in the cove in Taiji, netted off and awaiting potential captivity or slaughter.” They added that “many, many juveniles and many dolphins [are] spy-hopping, displaying scared and unnatural behavior.” Considering that dolphins are scientifically recognized as sentient beings, such behavior indicates that they are well aware of the fate that awaits them. According to Sea Sheperd and other observer groups, the slaughter of this particular super-pod is set to take place at some point this weekend.

Though groups like Sea Sheperd are in attendance to monitor and expose the situation, there is little they can do for fear of arrest as a heavy police presence descends upon the cove during Taiji’s seasonal slaughter. Those who attempt to interfere with the hunt are arrested before they can get anywhere close to stopping the bloodbath as the Japanese government has been very vocal in its support of the dolphin hunts despite international outrage about the treatment of dolphins as well as the high mercury content of the butchered dolphin meat that is then marketed within Japan. Under current Japanese law, the Wakayama prefecture is allowed to annually hunt and kill up to 2,026 dolphins and porpoises, a high number designed to protect the whale and dolphin fishermen who insist that this practice is a tradition. However, as the Sea Sheperd team noted, “There are many frightened babies with their mothers. This is not tradition, this is not culture; this is cruelty, this is torture.”

A 2010 study that examined a sample of 203 individuals from different companies’ management development programs revealed something interesting. It was found that about 3% of business managers scored in the psychopath range while the incidence of psychopathy in the general population is approximately 1%. So why are there so many psychopaths in senior management positions?

The Study

A more recent study, published in 2014 in the Journal of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology, shed new light on the behavior of psychopaths, which could explain this phenomenon.

During an experiment, a group of people were given a standard test of psychopathy. At the same time, the participants were shown a series of picture aimed to test their levels of empathy. For this purpose, the researchers measured their galvanic skin response to examine their emotional reaction to the shown pictures.

The research showed that psychopaths with average or high levels of intelligence were able to control their galvanic skin response. As a result of this, their responses appeared normal. At the same time, psychopaths with low IQ exhibited abnormal test results, which are typical for individuals with psychopathic tendencies.

What the Results Mean

Psychopaths are great manipulators, and this research provides new evidence for that. The results of the study suggest that psychopaths with high IQs are able to hide their true identity, faking their emotional responses and probably personality traits as well. As a result, they often show a different picture of themselves and trick others into believing this is their real self.

Carolyn Bate, the first author of the study, said:

“The ones who are at the top of businesses are often charming and intelligent, but with emotional deficits, as opposed to psychopaths who are quite erratic and tend to commit gruesome crimes and are often caught and imprisoned.”

She also thinks that psychopaths in positions of power could be far more than 3%, “because if people are aware they are psychopathic they can also lie – they are quite manipulative and lack empathy.”

These findings are quite interesting to consider and could apply to other spheres except for the business world. I’m sure that if psychologists had the opportunity to study those in positions of political power, the figure would go beyond 3%. Being manipulative and able to fake one’s emotions is a quality that certainly helps one become a successful politician. Not even to mention that in order to reach the highest levels of political power, some lack of empathy and conscience is a must.

Dr. Paul Babiak writes in his book, Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths Go to Work:

“They are masters of impression management; their insight into the psyche of others combined with a superficial – but convincing – verbal fluency allows them to change their situation skillfully as it suits the situation and their game plan.”

Doesn’t this sound like most of our politicians? They are just playing their game, tricking people into believing that their concerns about the world and society are sincere. They pretend to care while in reality, they only want more power and money. And we don’t even need a study to know this for sure.

George Orwell’s 1984 is a classic book depicting a populace ruled by a political regime that persecutes individualism and independent critical thinking as “thoughtcrimes” that must be enforced by the “thought police.” This party seeks power above all, and, through the propagandist Ministry of Truth, presents the people with their version of truth. Sound familiar?

Within the past few years, so much information has come out contradicting the mainstream rhetoric. Election fraud, as made evident by Wikileaks, is one example, and false flag terrorism, with 9/11 being the perfect example, is another. The elite has been thriving off of shaping our perception about events to justify their actions in response to these events, all while manufacturing them in the first place. Perhaps one of the best examples comes from 2016, when the Pentagon was caught paying a PR firm more than half a billion dollars to create fake terrorist videos.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has also called out the desire by the elite for a New World Order, which would see the “powers that be” use “imaginary and mythical” threats to control us. If you’d like to learn more about the New World Order, you can read an article I wrote about it in 2015 that goes into more detail here.

“The statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.”

– Mark Twain

Keep in mind, this just pertains to geo-politics; there are several other examples within the health, food, education, finance, and other industries. We live in a world of manipulation and propaganda, handed down to us by the global elite, who would like us to believe this is simply a conspiracy theory.

Now can you see the correlation between our modern day world and 1984?

Recently, Gizmodo.com reported that Amazon sold out of 1984, and within recent days it occupied the number one spot on Amazon’s best-selling books list. The rapid sell-outs of the book were also reported by mainstream media outlets like CNN, only they tied it to Trump’s administration. The New York Times reported that this started when Kellyanne Conway, an adviser to Donald J. Trump, used a turn of phrase that struck some observers as reminiscent of the dystopian world of 1984.

This is clearly just another attempt by mainstream media to smear Trump. This was not done at all with Hillary because she is backed by the elite. Any opportunity they have to smear Trump, they’ll take.

This, unfortunately, is what politics has become — a cesspool of corruption completely devoid of a suitable leader to choose from. Any leader worthy of the name is ignored, because guess who controls our attention? Mainstream media and the handful of powerful people who run it. We saw this with Dr. Ron Paul all three times he tried to run for president.

It’s ironic because the move toward tyranny, and a ‘big brother’ type of state, which desires a heightened national security state, a watchful eye on citizens, and an enormous amount of propaganda to shape our perception of events happening around the world while, at the same time, encouraging us to continually consume, is and has been in the works well before Donald Trump. The agenda has been an American-dominated global empire where a tiny minority of people control and own all aspects of our everyday lives, from water, GM foods, minerals, and everything else worth owning in this world.

We must understand why Trump was demonized by the mainstream media, beyond the fact that he made it easy for them to do so. He has made plenty of sexist, narcissistic, racist, and other statements that have offended many, but the fact remains that Hillary Clinton was the ultimate representative and puppet for the American establishment, which seeks to control the populace through various means, and is leading many people to believe that the country is heading toward a state of complete tyranny.

Author Richard Dolan puts it quite well:

If you are concerned about fascism coming to America, don’t look for a fist pounding demagogue. Look instead at a government that can read every email you have ever written, GPS you at any time, know your internet habits better than you do, surveil you literally wherever you go in any major city, and use your information against you if they decide, however loosely, that you are an enemy of the state. That is fascism, and the U.S. has been living that bipartisan nightmare for 15 years. Thank you George W. Bush. Thank you Barack Obama.

Trump might make that situation worse, or he might not. But without a doubt his rhetoric has spoken directly to those who feel left behind by globalization, to a middle class that has been effectively disemboweled over the last generation, in which economic hope has all but evaporated. Trump has played to that part of the electorate, and only time will tell whether or not he is sincere, or can deliver. (source)

Whoever these people are, and the agenda they are pushing, it’s clear that Trump, despite his power and privilege, is not in the same boat as the Clintons, Bush, or Obama.

This does not mean I’m a Trump supporter. At the end of the day, the real “menace of our Republic,” as former New York City Mayor John F. Hylan put it, is the “invisible government, which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states and nation.” It is the “little coterie of powerful international bankers [who] virtually run the United States government for their own selfish purposes,” controlling both parties and the majority of newspapers and magazines. “They use the columns of these papers to club into submission or drive out of office public officials who refuse to do the bidding of the powerful corrupt cliques which compose the invisible government.”

According to CNN, 1984 also saw a spike in sales during 2013 when leaks by by Edward Snowden made NSA surveillance a huge international story.

Who knows, perhaps Trump is also a part of this agenda — after all, there can be disputes and disagreements among the elite, too.

The Orwellian State Has Been Growing for a Long Time

The state described in George Orwell’s books has been in the works for a long time, and for the past few decades, politcal parties have not existed to secure the will of the people. Theodore Roosevelt, former President of the United States, was another among many who tried to warn us that both parties have strayed from their original purpose:

From these great tasks both of the old parties have turned aside. Instead of instruments to promote the general welfare, they have become the tools of corrupt interests which use them impartially to serve their selfish purposes. Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government, owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people (source).

For mainstream media to tie Trump to this book is ridiculous, given the fact that the power that’s controlled the presidency for so long is clearly the correct comparison.

What Can We Do About It?

The good news is that more and more people across the globe are starting to wake up to all of the misinformation being spread on a daily basis, and that includes the agenda of those behind it. Even a decade ago, the mass populace was not as aware that all is not as it seems, and as a result of this mass awakening, our perception, our thoughts, our collective consciousness is beginning to shift. We no longer see the world the way it has been presented to us, and we are starting to realize that simply waking up to all of the propaganda that surrounds us is creating big problems for the global elite. The very first step to changing a problem is to first recognize that problem, and we are still in that process.

Having worked in this field for almost a decade, it’s quite amazing to see what’s taking place, and how many people are having those ‘ah-hah’ moments. The quest for world domination does not sit well with the citizenry, and democracy has become nothing but an illusion, with political parties serving the interest of their ‘owners,’ not the people.

The more people recognize what’s really happening in our world, the more people will take a stand and do whatever they can to change it. This is happening now, in several different ways, and it starts with you and me.

The more we try, and the more we ‘wake up,’ the closer we get to actions and ripple effects that will change our world.
